word from Father Harte, PS from Miss Heartwell

Father Harte of Chicago writes the following:

Mr. Berkeley, sir,

It's been a while since your request for a photo for your blog. Although I haven't taken a lot of blog-worthy pictures lately, I didn't want to disappoint or infuriate a man of your stature with noncompliance.

Therefore, I've attached a picture of my favorite sign in Chicago: Stanley's Fruits & Vegetables, on the Corner of Elston and North Avenues.

Why is it my favorite, you might ask? First off, its four words are presented in two colors and two different fonts--one, an old-timey condensed Red Sox style, and the other, a space-age italic. Then there's Stanley himself, the most dapper gent on any produce sign. The '60s style flat-top 'do, the snazzy turtleneck, the chinos and loafers. Of course, that's not even getting into the fact that he's flying a watermelon airplane. And all the while, he's smoking a pipe?! C'mon.

Hope this helps. Please send my best to the yeomanry of New England, your lovely wife, her pack of unruly beasts, and your fleet of bicycles.

--Harte

PS Miss Heartwell, also of Chicago, offers to buy Mr. Sweeney the biggest steak in Boston. Is she concerned for his health and well being, or is she just buttering him up for some freelance? Stay tuned.
